About

Carolyn Sybesma
Founder & Principal
For more than 20 years, Carolyn has led teams and developed people across the education, arts, and social sectors. She has helped mission-driven organizations navigate rapid growth and transformational change — from expanding an ESL franchise across Asia, to driving a Chicago-based nonprofit music school toward 3X growth, to supporting a fast-growing global education startup.
Throughout her career, Carolyn has learned that organizational excellence and human development are inseparable. Sustainable impact happens when leaders cultivate self-awareness, teams work effectively together, and systems align around clear priorities.
Today, through Shift, she partners with organizations, leaders, and teams to navigate complexity, strengthen culture, and turn vision into meaningful, measurable results.
Carolyn holds a bachelor's degree in Music and a master's degree in Arts Management, along with an Executive Coaching Certificate from Northwestern University's Executive Learning and Organizational Change program. She is also certified in the Hogan Leadership Assessment and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®).
Carolyn lives in Chicago with her family. Outside of work, she's a mom to three boys, an aspiring gardener, a lifelong traveler, and a devoted follower of women's sports.
